This course is designed for students who have already taken basic and intermediate levels of Portuguese. The course will be conducted in Portuguese. In addition, students will explore movies, music, short stories, and other media as they further develop reading, speaking and interpretive skills in Portuguese. Classroom activities will emphasize the development of pronunciation and spoken production, the use of language structures and vocabulary at the intermediate level. Portuguese 0340 is an accelerated intermediate course designed for students who have taken Portuguese for Spanish Speakers I, or its equivalent. The class will be conducted in Portuguese. Students will participate in pairs, small-groups and whole-class activities that focus on the meaningful and accurate exchange of information. Classroom activities will emphasize pronunciation, spoken production as well as language structures and vocabulary. The course begins with exposure to basic vocabulary and structures, advancing at an accelerated pace. This course is designed for students who have studied Spanish. The course will introduce students to Portuguese and Lusophone culture through a variety of authentic materials, including texts, songs, films and other audio and video material. Students will participate in paired and group activities designed to elicit meaningful and accurate exchanges of information. The course will emphasize the development of foundational reading, writing, listening and speaking abilities within a cultural context. Portuguese 0100 is a first-semester introductory language course for students who have not studied Portuguese before, or who have had little exposure to the language. The vocabulary in the song El Viento de Otoño ( The Fall Wind) is more advanced, but kids can listen for the colors of the leaves that are mentioned while they watch people rake them into piles. Next, little ones can learn to count in Spanish by keeping track of how many leaves fall off the tree with Las Hojas Del Árbol ( The Tree Leaves). So let’s start out with a song called Hojas ( Leaves) that teaches kids the names of various colors in Spanish when leaves fall from a tree. ![]() I already mentioned that the leaves are changing colors. You guys will be speaking Spanish in no time! Here’s a little shout out to the cute little munchkins who did such a great job with the alfabeto this past Friday. These resources will also be fun for the preschool Spanish class I started teaching on Friday mornings. So even though I was still wearing shorts and a tank top, the leaves were telling me to start looking for fall songs and books in Spanish for kids, so I could share them with you. That’s what was happening last week, however, in NE Ohio. I am not used to seeing the leaves change colors when it is 90 degrees outside. ![]()
